Terming Islam as a religion of peace, the Prime Minister said a vested quarter is defaming the image of Islam by unleashing terrorism and militancy in the name of Islam. Sheikh Hasina said preaching and expansion of Islam were made on the basis of Sufism, adding Sufism got the highest popularity in the region. Highlighting various steps of her government for the welfare of Islam, the Prime Minister said Awami League always work for the welfare of the holy religion when it comes to power.
In this regard, she recalled the contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who established Islamic Foundation, Madrasa Board as well as allocated land for Bishwa Ijtema at Tongi. Sheikh Hasina said her government in its previous tenure introduced mosque-based education and brought all district and upazila offices Islamic Foundation under the revenue sector. She said her present government renovated and developed the National Mosque Baitul Mokarram. The Prime Minister said the government introduced training for the Imams and Muajjins while a trust fund has been formed for their welfare.
Khatib of Jamiatul Falah Mosque in Chittagong Principal Jalaluddin Al Quaderi, Peer of Maizbhandari Darbar Sharif in Chittagong Syed Saifudddin Ahmed Al Hasani, Secretary General of Islamic Front Maulana MA Matin, Peer of Chittagong Agrabad Darbar Sharif Allama Hafez Saifur Rahman Nizami, Chairman of Islami Oikya Jote Hafez Maulana Ziaul Hasan, Chairman of Gausia Committee, Bangladesh Alhaz Pyar Mohammad, Allama Farid Uddin, Maulana ANM Masud Hossain, Shaikhul Hadith Maulana Moinuddin Ashrafi of Chittagong, Maulana Abu Sufian Abedi Al Quaderi also spoke on the occasion, among others.
