The Prime Minister said Awami League government has introduced the system of public examinations at primary and junior school level to remove the fear of the students of secondary school certificate (SSC) examinations. Public examinations at primary level and junior school level encouraged the students to carry out their studies more attentively for better result. As a result, pass rate in the SSC examinations has been improved, she said. Sheikh Hasina opined that the opposition leader could not accept the progress of the students. That is why, she (Begum Zia) is enforcing hartal on every exam day to destroy their life, the Prime Minister added.
The Prime Minister urged the Leader of the Opposition to refrain from trying to protect the war criminals. "Don't try to protect the war criminals, people will not accept it," she said. Pointing out the steps taken by the present government for providing various support for the school students, the Prime Minister said, stipend, scholarship and free textbooks are being given so that poor families do not face any hurdle to educate their children. The Prime Minister mentioned the academic background of Begum Zia and said, "Leader of the Opposition may want our children to follow her. That's why she is giving hartal on every examination day to defer the exams."
Sheikh Hasina said, her government waived taxes on computer and reduced the price of internet. Multimedia classrooms were set up in the schools making computer education compulsory up to secondary level. "Computer education will be made compulsory at primary level if we come to power again," she said. The Prime Minister said, Awami League has established union service centres in all unions so that people get internet services from their home areas. From their home they now can find various information and job in the local and international market, and communicate with relatives abroad, she said. "We have brought the world in the palm of the people, while BNP-Jamaat-Hefajat are misguiding people in the name of religion and burning the holy Quran," she added.
She expressed her firm resolve to build hunger and poverty free modern knowledge based and progressive Bangladesh by 2021 saying, "I have nothing to get. I want to materialize the dream of the Father of the Nation and for this I'm ready to make any sacrifice."
Earlier, the Prime Minister opened the Meer Shakhawat Ali Dabu Bridge over the Baleswari River on Nazirpur-Kachua Road, DN Technical College-cum-Cyclone Centre, Bagerhat Pourasabha building, Regional Duck Hatchery, Bagerhat Marine Technology Institute, Shaheed Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Technical College in Kachua and Bangladesh Awami League office in Kachua upazila.
She also laid the foundation stones of the academic building- cum-examination centre of Government PC College, academic building of Kachua Degree College, Sheikh Helaluddin Degree College, Upazila Muktijoddha Complex of Signboard, Morelganj, Rayenda and Shrankhola, academic building of Rakhagachi Dakhil Madrasa in Bagerhat Sadar upazila, Kachua CS Pilot Model School Building, Kachuria Ideal Secondary School-cum- Multipurpose Cyclone Centre, KAASA Hamid High School, Aruadihi Multipurpose Cyclone Centre and Chader Hat Secondary Girls' High School-cum- Cyclone Centre.
