Ashraf said Sheikh Hasina made the much-awaited phone call to Begum Zia at 6.23 pm to discuss the currentpolitical situation and pave the way for a poll-time government and smooth general elections. During the cordial conversation that lasted about 37 minutes, the Prime Minister also requested the opposition leader to call off the 60- hour non-stop hartal from tomorrow morning.

Sheikh Hasina said there is no need for enforcing hartal as she is ready to solve the "political impasse" over the poll-time government through discussion. "I am ready to discuss any issue to end the deadlock," she said. The Prime Minister also mentioned that the hartal (shutdown) has become a barrier to welfare and peace of the people, Ashraf said.

" Asked whether Khaleda Zia accepted the invitation, Ashraf said: "The leader of the opposition did not reject the invitation and we hope she would join the dinner." The AL general secretary said the modality of the discussion to end the current political impasse over the election-time government is expected to be fixed at the talks between the two top leaders of Awami League and BNP.
