Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also put emphasis on innovation of apposite and time -befitting agro technologies and reaching those to farmers. "We must ensure so that the farmers can get agri inputs on time and they also get fair prices of their produces," she said. The Prime Minister said the agriculture scientists of the country have so far innovated over 400 varieties of high yielding, drought, salinity and flood tolerance crops. "They also innovated suitable technology, agri equipment and method of cultivation," she said. Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh could attain self-sufficiency in food production thanks to innovation of the agro scientists,cooperation of the government and hard-labour of the farmers. "This credit is not of the government alone, it is the credit of yours and farmers," she added.


Sheikh Hasina said the government has also made arrangements of providing financial incentives to agri scientists to encourage them in new innovations through agri research. She asked the agriculturists to maintain the existing successes in food production by intensifying research on agriculture. "You will have to extend your hand to the farmers like close friends. Strengthen research, formulate plan and take programmes," she said and assured all out government assistance to this end. In this regard she mentioned her government cooperation in decoding the genome sequence of jute which has brightened the image of people and the country.


She said the aim of her government is to turn Bangladesh into a hunger and poverty-free middle-income country by 2021, the golden jubilee year of independence. "That's why, we will have to achieve desired progress in all sectors including education, health, agriculture, industry,trade, science and technology, information communication and women empowerment," she added.


Sheikh Hasina also opened the newly constructed Krishak Ratna Sheikh Hasina Hall and Nabab Sirajuddowla Hall of Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University from the same function.
