Everything will be done for modernizing the army: PM

Sheikh Hasina said her government if voted to power would continue the reform and reorganizing activities at different levels of Bangladesh Army. She urged every member of the army to keep him or her always ready by remaining united for protecting the sovereignty of the country. “It is my belief that you would brighten the image of the homeland through your own consideration, professional skill and dutifulness and you would enhance your reputation on the world stage meaning the UN Peacekeeping Missions,” she hoped.

Sheikh Hasina said, her government had established and reconstituted one infantry and one mixed brigade, specialized works organization (SWO), one armour regiment, three infantry units, two artillery units, one RE battalion, two ECB and one ST battalion for the army. In addition to that, many important institutions like NDC,BIPSOT, AFMC, MIST and NCO academy were established, she said,adding Bangladesh Infantry Regimental Center was established newly for the development of infantry regiment and bringing dynamism.

For the first time, she said, steps were taken for admission of women to the army medical corps from this year. Very recently, medical dispensary was introduced in 11 district armed forces boards with the financial support of the Senakalyan Sangstha. The Prime Minister said her government has taken all measures for upgrading the training module of Bangladesh Army to make it as a modern and professional force. “Massive programmes were taken for joint training of members of the army at home and abroad,” she said, adding training in the USA, UK, Sri Lanka and India have strengthened their efficiency and confidence to a large extent.

“Our government always wants to run the country as the servant of the people, not as their ruler,” she said, extending her thanks to the members of the armed forces for their constant support to implement development programmes of the government,”she said. She hoped that the support would continue in future.
