Happy Birthday Sheikh Hasina; the Daughter of Democracy

Sheikh Hasina was unanimously elected president of the Bangladesh Awami League in its biennial council held between February 13 and 15 in 1981 and she returned home on May 17 the same year ending her six-year's exile abroad.
Since then and until the last the Awami League triennial council held in 2008, Sheikh Hasina was re-elected by the councillors as the president of the party, who ensured her party's return to helm of the state affairs in the parliamentary polls in 1996 and 2008, led Bangladesh to glory in the world through her farsighted and charismatic leadership.

In observance of the birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is now in New York City to attend the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Awami League Central Working Committee has decided to garland her profusely at her Grand Hyatt Hotel suite wishing her long life and success.

Marking the day, special prayers and milad mahfils will be organised at different mosques including Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Zohr prayers while special prayers also will be offered at Dhakeshwari National Temple and other places of worship including churches and pagodas at 12noon. Dhaka City Awami League, the largest unit of the ruling Awami League, will observe her birthday with a daylong programme today.
The programmes of the day include daylong recitation of the verses from the holy Quran and holding of a milad mahfil and discussion at the party central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city at 4pm seeking divine blessing for the long life and successes of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Besides, cooked food will also be distributed among the inmates of different orphanages.

Sheikh Russell Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad will organise a discussion and distribute sports appliances among the tiny-tots at the Tower Bhaban auditorium of the National Sports Council marking the day.

Other associate bodies of AL and different organisations including Awami Juba League, Awami Swechchasebak League (ASL), Chhatra League, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote, Bangabandhu Shishu- Kishore Mela, Awami Sangskritik Jote and Awami Muktijoddha Projanma League will also observe the day with various programmes like cutting cakes, milad mahfils, discussions, distribution of educational appliances and colourful marches.
