June 11, 2008, marked a new dawn in Bangladesh’s strive for democracy. An unelected and unconstitutional caretaker government backed by the military buckled under a spontaneous mass movement that sparked throughout the country in protest at the incarceration of Sheikh Hasina based on trumped-up charges.

Eleven months back, on July 16 of the same year, law enforcers were sent in who stormed into the residence of Sheikh Hasina, dragged her down and put her in confinement for eleven long months. And That too based on charges that were slapped not on the grounds of facts but rather to keep her out of politics.
