Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has told the Jatiya Sangsad that the government is set to decentralize the governance system by 2041.

“Bangladesh is becoming a peaceful, prosperous and developed country by 2041 by implementing the vision 2041 —By this time, the governance system of Bangladesh will be decentralized,” she said while replying to a tabled question from treasury bench lawmaker M Abdul Latif from Chattogram-11 constituency.

To pursue the decentralisation of the governance system, the premier said “Local administration will bear the lion’s share of government expenditure at the local level in league with the coordination of the central administration.

Good governance and empowering the people will be the driving force behind the policy for the overall progress of the country, she opined.

Noting that Bangladesh’s economy is getting a strong footing, Sheikh Hasina said that the flow of investment is increasing gradually and the balance of payment of Bangladesh remains in good position due to high growth in exports and remittances.

In this context, the premier also said that they have brought the inflation rate under control and the budget deficit within 5 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

‘It can be expected that the economic growth will accelerate further in the days to come,’ she opined.

“Bangladesh will turn into a developed nation with US$ 16,000 per capita income and the poverty will be a matter of distant past in this Sonar Bangla (Golden Bangla) in 2041,” said Sheikh Hasina.

In accordance with the World Economic Situation and Prospects 2019 of the United Nations, Bangladesh was one of the 10 top growth economies in the world in 2018, she said.
