PM Sheikh Hasina spends a evening with country's celebrities

The lush green lawn of Ganabhaban resonated with the presence of a huge number of the celebrities in the late afternoon and evening.

The function started at about 4.40 pm as the Prime Minister came to the Ganabhaban south lawn wearing a cream coloured saree dotted with design. The programme continued for about three hours with a 10-minute break for Maghrib prayers.

Sheikh Hasina, also the elder daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, talked to the celebrated personalities and enquired about their wellbeing by walking up to them.

She spent a few memorable moments with the country's renowned persons by gossiping with them and enjoying patriotic and folk songs and poems sung and recited by various artistes.

Sheikh Rehana, younger daughter of Bangabandhu, also joined the function with her elder sister and talked to the celebrities and enquired about their wellbeing.

The country's leading singers and poets enthralled the audience by rendering songs and reciting poems on a decorated dais set up on the southeast corner of Ganobhaban.

Accompanied by Sheikh Rehana, Sheikh Hasina enjoyed some beautiful songs and poems at the cultural function sitting on the lush green Ganobhaban lawn.

The cultural function started with a "geeti nritya" performed by some beautiful children followed by a Tagore song by Raisa Ahmed Sera, daughter of PM's Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad.

Later, Dalia Ahmed recited poem titled Bangla Tangla authored by Apurba Dutta, while Priyanka Gope performed a patriotic song.

Tagore songs were performed by Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Sajid Akbar and Salma Akbar. On behalf of the ethnic minority group, Rakhain community performed their traditional dance. Celebrated reciter Jayanta Chatterjee also recited a poem.

Timir Nandi rendered famous song "Shono Ekti Mujiborer Theke" and Nargis Fatema sang "Tomake Shonate Ei Ganer Bina". Shama Rahman rendered a Tagore song.

Nazrul geeti singer Khairul Anam Shakil performed a song of Shachin Dev Burman titled "Tak Dum Tak Dum Bazai Bangladesher Dhol", renowned actor Mir Sabbir recited a poem "Keu Kotha Rakheni" in Barisal accent.

Shilpakala Academy artistes performed folk and patriotic songs. Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain recited a poem and Prime Minister's Office Director Dr Zulfikar Lenin rendered a song.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor and PM's Private Secretary- 2 Namita Haldar conducted the function.

The guests were entertained with various kinds of traditional pitha (cakes) like pati sapta, bhapa and chitoi, and chicken kebab, beef shik kebab, parata, nan ruti, jilapi, tea and coffee as well as "chatpati" and "fuska".
