"BNP was born from the pocket of a military dictator who grabbed power through coup and plot and violating the constitution. That's why the party does not understand the language of democracy, what it understands well is killing people by torturing and burning, "When the BNP comes to power, they cannot change the lot of the people, they only know looting the property of the people," Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while addressing a mammoth public rally organized by Barolekha Upazila Awami League at Barolekha Degree College Ground here this afternoon.


Shutdown and dialogue cannot go together, Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy has said as he urged the Opposition to call off its 72-hour shutdown. "The Opposition party is perpetrating terrorism while calling for a dialogue," he told a rally, organised by Awami League in Sylhet City on Friday.


"We want to hold elections with the participation of all political parties. Stop killing innocent people in the name of movement to protect the war criminals. Come for discussion and let people live in peace," she said. The Prime Minister said this while she was addressing a huge public meeting at Freedom Fighter Nurul Islam Commander Chattar at Kadamtali here.


Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina today said the construction work on the Padma Bridge Project is underway.

"The work on implementation of the Padma Bridge Project at an estimated cost of Taka 20,507.20 crore or 2.97 billion US dollars with own funding of the government is going on," she said.

The Prime Minister said this in reply to a tabled question from BNP lawmaker Nazim Uddin Ahmed.

Sheikh Hasina said the work on the riverbank protection at the Janzira Construction Yard at a cost of Taka 95.98 crore is underway. Sixty-five percent of the work has already been completed, she said.

The Leader of the House said the construction the Janzira Approach Road costing Taka 1262.96 crore is ongoing.

She said the cabinet committee on the public procurement has approved a proposal for appointing contractors for the construction of Mawa Approach Road. Taka 259.56 crore have been earmarked for the work, she said.

Sheikh Hasina said the expression of interest (EoI) has been floated for appointingconstruction supervision consultant for constructing the main bridge and supervision of the river training work.

She said 11 organizations have submitted the proposal and, of them, five organizations have been short-listed in the evaluation. The RFP will be issued soon, she added.

The Prime Minister also said the work on land acquisition and rehabilitation of the affected people is at the last stage.


"Every sector of the country witnessed development as the Awami League is at the helm of state affairs. Other parties ruled the country for 28 years, but could not take the country forward, as they were busy with making their own fortune," Awami League could achieve the success, as the party believes in people's welfare and progress, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told a huge public meeting organized by Porsha Upazila unit of Awami League at Porsha College ground here today.


"We want to frame Qaumi madrasa policy in consultation with all concerned. We don't want to hurt anybody and create any unrest centering the policy," PM Sheikh Hasna said this while she was delivering her introductory speech at a meeting with Alems, Ulema, Mashayekh and the leaders of various Islamic organizations held at her official Gonobhaban residence here last evening.
