Newly-appointed Danish Ambassador in Dhaka Winnie Estrup Petersen has said her country wants Myanmar to take back their Rohingya nationals as she called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“Myanmar should take back its Rohingya nationals from Bangladesh,” premier’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim quoted the ambassador as saying during the courtesy call on at PMO on Tuesday morning.
He said the prime minister put emphasis again on repatriation of Rohingya people from Bangladesh.
The premier, he said, highlighted her government’s steps for rehabilitation of the persecuted Rohingya people particularly explaining their relocation plan to an island which is being developed in Noakhali to give them temporary shelter.
Sheikh Hasina also talked about the country’s internal political process when she said “we want to flourish democracy further in Bangladesh”.
Estrup highly appreciated Bangladesh’s tremendous socioeconomic development under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership.
“I’m happy to know Bangladesh’s tremendous uplift under your dynamic leadership in different sectors particularly in women empowerment,” she said.
The prime minister elaborated her government’s relentless efforts for further development of the country, saying that the uplift programmes are now visible due to the continuation of the government.
“We’re working tirelessly to fulfill the basic needs of the people including their food security,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina also highlighted her government’s successes in the fields of agriculture, education, health and women empowerment.
“The womenfolk of the country is now working in all sectors successfully due to various steps of our government,” she said.
PM’s Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman was present on the occasion, among others.
